IT Support for Auto Dealerships in New Jersey
IT for dealerships: lot-wide UniFi wireless, a stable environment around the DMS, FTC Safeguards controls, and backup the store can rely on.
A dealership is a showroom, a business office, a service department, and several acres of lot, all running on the same network. When that network is weak, everything slows down: writing up a deal, scanning a VIN at the far end of the lot, pulling up a repair order in the bays. Nexus Ideal Solutions provides managed IT for auto dealerships in New Jersey, and this is not theoretical for us: we support dealership operations today, running on Ubiquiti UniFi network equipment.
Why dealerships call us
Wi-Fi that works in the showroom but dies in the service bays or at the back of the lot.
A DMS and a stack of vendor systems that all have to stay online for the store to sell and service cars.
FTC Safeguards Rule requirements that came with arranging financing, and no clear picture of whether the store actually meets them.
Watching what happened to dealerships during the 2024 DMS outage and realizing how exposed the store is.
Coverage from the showroom to the back of the lot
A dealership network has to work outdoors as well as in. Salespeople scan VINs and pull inventory at the far corner of the lot, technicians look up repair orders in the bays, and customers expect guest Wi-Fi in the waiting area that stays separate from store systems. We design and manage networks built for exactly that: outdoor-rated access points covering the lot, proper segmentation between guest, sales, and back-office traffic, and coverage planned against the property rather than guessed at. We build on UniFi where it fits, which means no annual license fee on every device, and the dealership owns its hardware outright.
Around the DMS and your vendor systems, we keep the environment stable: the network they run over, the workstations that touch them, and the coordination with the software vendor when an issue crosses into their platform. We work alongside your DMS, not in place of it.
The FTC Safeguards Rule applies to your store
Dealerships that arrange financing are treated as financial institutions under the FTC Safeguards Rule, which means real, documented security controls are expected: access control, encryption, endpoint protection, monitoring, and a written plan behind them. We put the technical side of that in place: endpoint detection and response on every machine, controlled access, DNS filtering, managed passwords, and encrypted backup for servers and Microsoft 365 on a 3-2-1 model with an offsite, immutable copy. The written plan and policies are broader than IT, and the controls underneath them are exactly what we handle.
The threat is not abstract. Buyer records are full of exactly what ransomware groups monetize, and finance-office email, where deals, payoffs, and wire details move every day, is a prime target for payment fraud that AI has made much harder to spot. The 2024 ransomware attack on a major DMS provider took thousands of dealerships offline for weeks and made the lesson plain: you cannot control your software vendor's security, but you can control your own environment, your own backups, and how well your store functions when a vendor goes down.
Common questions from dealerships
Do you support our DMS?
We work alongside whatever DMS and vendor platforms your store runs. We keep the network, workstations, and environment around them secure, backed up, and stable, and we coordinate with the vendor when an issue crosses into their system.
Can you get Wi-Fi across the whole lot?
Yes. Outdoor-rated access points, placed against the actual shape of the property, carry coverage to the far corners of the lot and the service bays. This is standard work for us on UniFi equipment.
Can you help us meet the FTC Safeguards Rule?
We put the technical controls the rule expects in place, access control, encryption, endpoint security, backup, and monitoring, and we document them. The written program and policies are broader than IT, and we handle the technical portion of it. Tell us where your store stands and we will tell you exactly what we cover.
What areas do you serve?
We are based in New Jersey and support dealerships across NJ, PA, and NY, with remote support available nationwide. On-site work is scheduled and quoted before we start.
